The Residence Corte Grimani offers 15 one-bedroom serviced apartments just off a gondola basin north of the Piazza San Marco. It's within a few minutes' walking distance of the Basilica, the Doge's Palace, and the Rialto Bridge. All of apartments have kitchens and washer-dryers that can be used for an extra charge.

For a longer stay, you'll save money with a more traditional apartment rental, but if you're staying in Venice for only two or three days, it can be nice to have easy check-in and check-out plus service from a 24-hour reception desk.

How to reach Corte Grimani from the Alilaguna airport-boat pier at San Marco Giardinetti:

1. As you leave the San Marco Giardinetti boat station, turn left and cross a small stone bridge.

2. Continue a few meters to the Calle Vallaresso and turn right.

3. At the first cross street, turn right and walk through a covered passage into the Piazza San Marco.

4. Walk through the square (or under the arcades, if the crowds aren't excessive) to the north side of the square as shown on the map.

5. Go through the Sotoportego de l'Arco Celestia (a covered passage right before the Modolo shop and a yellow sign that reads "Per Rialto").

6. When you reach the canal just beyond the end of the passage, bear left. You'll see the Hard Rock Café ahead of you, facing the gondola basin.

7. Turn right at the Hard Rock Café and walk a block or so until you have to cross a footbridge.

8. Immediately after crossing the footbridge, turn left and follow the metal railing along the canal. The Residence Corte Grimani is in a pink building just behind the Banca Popolare di Vicenza, next to a boat landing.

From the Marittima cruise terminals:

1. Take the Alilaguna Blue Line airport boat from the Marittima cruise basin to the San Marco Giardinetti waterbus stop.
