The Ca' dei Dogi, or "House of the Doges," is a small (and remarkably affordable) boutique B&B in a wonderful location: It's only a few meters inland from the Riva degli Schiavoni, a waterfront promenade where you'll find most of Venice's most exclusive luxury hotels.

A rooftop terrace offers outdoor seating with views of the Doge's Palace, which is close by.

The inn's six guestrooms are air-conditioned, with an attractive contemporary decor. For a splurge, book the double with spa bathtub or the double room with balcony.

How to reach the Ca' dei Dogi from the airport-boat pier at San Zaccaria:

The Alilaguna Linea Blu (Blue Line) airport boat arrives at the "C" and "D" platforms of the San Zaccaria waterbus stop, which is also used by ACTV public vaporetti. Here's how to reach Ca' dei Dogi from the boat pier:

1. As you leave the waterbus station, bear left toward the stone pedestrian bridge.

2. Cross the bridge and continue to the second street that goes inland, the Calle degli Albanesi.

3. Turn right into the Calle degli Albanesi, walk straight ahead, and look for a small "Ca' dei Dogi" sign that points left  into the Calle S. Scholastica. (See inset photo above.)

4. Turn left into the Calle S. Scholastica. Where the street widens, you'll see the Ca' dei Dogi facing a tiny square on your right.
